The other day I was in the Sanpete County recorder's office instructing Merrill "Speed" Ogden and Mark "Padre" Anderson on the correct way to do title searches. Suddenly, out of nowhere, Reed "Rader" Hatch, the county recorder said to me, "Hey, Voo, your blog really sucks. It is immature, infantile, juvenile, shallow, uninteresting, and a total waste of time. When are you going to post something profound and intellectually stimulating?" I have to tell you readers, that that comment really set me back. I have been trying all week to come up with a profound and intellectually stimulating blog and I think I have finally got one. So here goes............
VOO'S FAVORITE SCIENCE FICTION MOVIES FROM THE 1950's
1. THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD
1951
2. ATTACK OF THE FIFTY FOOT WOMAN
1958
3. THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL
1951
4. TWENTY THOUSAND LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA
4. TWENTY THOUSAND LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA
1954
1954
6. THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON
6. THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON
1955
1958
1953
1956
1953
1956
11. THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING MAN
My favorite out of all these classics is The Thing. I have seen it 30 times and it really holds up well. Invasion of the Body Snatchers is also very good and is a metaphor on communism taking over democracy. It's interesting that everybody's body was being snatched except Oil Can's.

QUIZ WINNERS QUIZ WINNERS QUIZ WINNERS
The winner of the single question quiz that was posted in a previous blog is, not surprisingly, my sister, Joyce. Joyce has really been on a quiz winning run lately. The Dude also had the correct answer but was a couple of days late. Congratulations to both of them. Joyce wins a ride on the Barber Brothers float in the Manti 4th of July Parade which will be held on the 3rd of July. The Dude wins a ride in the Andy Cox Electric Company truck at the Manti Christmas Light Parade which will be held on one day after Thanksgiving.
JOYCE ELIASON 1st Place
THE DUDE 2nd Place
QUIZ ANSWER: The eight who were convicted were German saboteurs. In 1942, four were put ashore on Long Island by a German submarine and four more were put ashore in Florida. Two of the Germans turned themselves in and ratted out the others before any sabotage could take place. Six were executed because it was war time and sabotage was a capital offense. The other two, who turned themselves in, were given life sentences and eventually returned to Germany after the war. J. Edgar Hoover and the FBI took all the credit for capturing the eight and never did let the public know that their capture was the result of the two who turned themselves in.
This week's one question quiz:

This week's one question quiz:
In the entire history of the United States, only one of our presidents has ever worn a German military uniform. Who was it?

A few George Carlin Quotes:
Why is it called tourist season if we can't shoot at them?
Would a fly without wings be called a walk?
Why do they sterilize needles for lethal injection?
Where do forest rangers go "get away from it all?"
The main reason Santa is so jolly is because he knows where all the bad girls live.

I am finally getting around to looking at your blog( you know I have a new grandson, right?)...loved the movies from that era..the acting was just terrible and the special effects were horrendous..but my favorite from that time was 1958 version of The Blob with Steve Mcqueen and Aneta Corsaut (Helen on Andy Griffith Show) I can still see that blob oozing it's way throughout the town...good stuff.
Jackie,
I saw the Blob at the old Manti Theatre in 1958 or 1959 and I remember Aneta Corsaut AKA Helen Crump. I also remember one episode of the Andy Griffith Show when Miss. Crump was getting it on with Floyd the barber right in the barber chair. Not many other people remember that episode.
Speaking of these movies, some the the special effects were very good. War Of The Worlds had great effects. Now days, all special effects are computer generated and you get the feeling that you are watching a cartoon. That's why I don't go to movies any more. I just sit home and sulk.
Congraulations on the new grandkid. Hope mother and child are doing fine.
Thanks for commenting on the blog. You are a very fine person.

I agree: The Thing is world class. Gabe and I watched it last Halloween and he loved it. Also, he makes his friends watch Day the Earth Stood Still when they sleep over. Slowly we are converting a new generation to the best era of horror/sci fi movies ever. "Help me! Help meeeeeeeeeeeeeee"
The Fly Costanza
I'll have a pitcure of you some time soon. Okay? I think you should have more pink and purple on your blog! I like the MUSIC alot!
