IMPORTANT STUFF

RED SOX FAN OF WEEK:
This week's number one Red Sox fan is Miss Maia Xue Franchetti. She recently turned five years old and lives in Vermont. Her nickname is "Tulip". Her favorite foods are ice cream and M&Ms. She is an accomplished singer, dancer, thespian,
skier, and biker. She is a crowd pleaser when she rides her bike in the 4th of July Parade, held in Manti, Utah on the 3rd of July.

YAZ
RED SOX LEGEND OF THE WEEK:
CARL YASTREMSKI "YAZ"
Red Sox left fielder from 1961-1983.

Roy Orbison
ROY ORBISON ALERT!!!!!
Remember ---- only 82 days until Roy Orbison's birthday on April 23rd.
Voo and Zoo's five favorite Roy Songs:
Crying
Only The Lonely
In Dreams
Pretty Woman
Blue Bayou

FLY OF THE WEEK:
The Royal Coachman

This is probably the all-time "king" of flies. It can be tied as a dry fly or a wet fly. Not only is it a fish favorite, it is also an excellent fly to hook your dog's ear or companion's cheek during the back cast.

DUCK OF THE WEEK:
The Bufflehead

Although this duck is rarely seen in Utah and has a name that reminds you of one of Voo's nephews-in-law, it is a very beautiful duck and it is a thrill to see one.

BUG OF THE CENTURY:
The Japanese Bark Beetle

This little "son of a bitch" is in the process of totally destroying all the forests in the United States of America.
....... Ranger Bob

KNOT OF THE WEEK:
SHEETBEND

This is a great knot for tying two different sizes of rope together. It is also the knot of choice for farmers tying two bales of baling twine together.

WWII TANK OF THE WEEK:
SHERMAN

This is the number one tank of the US Military in WWII. It had many faults but got the job done. If any of you know where there is one available, please let me know. I would love to display one on my front lawn.

MOUSEKETEER OF THE WEEK:
ANNETTE

Not only was Annette a very cute Mousekeer, she DEVELOPED into an outstanding singer, dancer and actress in the critically acclaimed Beach Party movies of the 1960s.

SHOE OF THE WEEK:
THE OXFORD

Everyday dozens of people ask me, "Voo, what is your all time favorite shoe?" My answer is always the same. For business, weddings, funerals, Duck's Unlimited banquets, and AA meetings, you can't go wrong wearing the Oxford. I get all my Oxfords at Jensen's Department Store in Manti, Utah. They have been in business for over 80 years and have an outstanding selection of shoes. Whenever you are in Manti, always stop at Jensen's and ask for Cousin Bob.

For fashionable footwear
That does the job,

DO YOU EVER WISH?

Do you ever wish that Rod Blagojevich and Sarah could be locked away together, having to listen to each other talk for the rest of eternity, never to be on the news again?

More Fun Under Winter Sun

Red Sox Fans of the Day: Mr. and Mrs. Andy Max Cox
Red Sox Alert: February 6, 2009 is "Truck Day" (Red Sox equipment truck leaves Boston for Spring Training in Florida.) Pitchers and catchers report in fourteen days for Spring Training. Check out the websites for Boston Dirt Dogs or the Boston Globe for further details.

Hi, everybody! Above is a photo of my black lab, Spike, during a pheasant hunt this winter. Spike is actually quite smart. He is smarter than most of my friends and whole bunch smarter than my two nephews. You will be seeing more of Spike in future posts and hopefully less of my nephews.

I've been receiving complaints from certain family members about the preponderance of Red Sox information on this blog. I have been asked to comment on other subjects such as mountain biking. The only thing I know about mountain biking is that it is a favorite activity of George W. Bush. Enough said! See photo above.

KNOT OF THE WEEK!
BOWLINE KNOT
This is a very valuable knot to learn. It does not slip and can be used to go around your waist when you are mountain climbing (or biking), hanging from a helicopter, or being dragged by a horse.

FISHING FLY OF THE WEEK
Pheasant Tail Nymph

FLAVOR OF THE WEEK
Peppermint Cabbage

MEET MY FAMILY
Above is a photo of my sister, Joyce Eliason.
She is a screenwriter living in Hollywood. The body of her work can be located on the Internet Movie Database.com
Her latest movie will be shown on Lifetime Channel, Feb. 28, 2009. Watch for further info.

HUMOROUS QUOTE

"Everyone has a photographic memory. Some just don't have film"

SERIOUS QUOTE

"Ain't no shame in being ignorant....the only shame is staying ignorant."

That's it for today. Comments welcomed but not necessarily appreciated.

Today we are going to talk a little bit about the Boston Red Sox. Some readers of this blog, if there really are any, might wonder why someone in the middle of rural Utah would have a life- long addiction to following the east coast Red Sox. When I was young and became a Sox fan they weren't a very good team and I was probably the only Sox fan in the entire state of Utah. Now there is a Red Sox Nation with thousands of fans residing in Utah. There are many Red Sox fans in my hometown of Manti. One big reason for this phenomenom is the fact that citizens of Manti have long considered Boston a twin sister city. The similarities between these two cities are amazing. For example:
Boston has over 300,000 people ------ Manti has over 3,000 people
Boston has the Kennedy Library ------ Manti has the Public Library
Boston has the Freedom Trail ----------Manti has the Sheep Trail
Boston has Faneuil Hall---==-----------Manti has a Juvenile Hall
Boston has the original home of Paul Revere ----- Manti has a home owned by a guy named Paul
Boston has great bars like the Cask n Flagon ----- Manti has a convenience store where you can buy a six pack of beer.
Boston has great restaurants like the Union Oyster House where you can get delicious seafood ------
Manti has Fred's Fast Food Sports Grill where you can get a deep fried fishburger
Boston has Fenway Park ------ Manti has high school kids who like to park.
On the 4th of July Boston enjoys the Boston Pops conducted by a guy named Keith Lockhart ----
On the 4th of July Manti enjoys a parade down main street lead by a guy on a unicycle
named Keith Franchetti
B
oston has the Old North Church ---- Manti has the Old North Ward Church

The similarities go on and on. It is actually quite eerie. As proof of the loyalty and devotion that many of the Manti citizens show towards Boston and their beloved Red Sox, I am exhibiting some photos of local fans. One of these photos was featured on the Boston Globe website.

The Red Sox will shine in Two thousand and nine!
