WHY I HATE THE NBA- F BOMB'S WAR MOVIES-- FORMANS WESTERNS- POETRY CORNER

RED SOX 2009

After a long wait, a new season is upon us. The two months between the Super Bowl and opening day seem like two years. This coming Monday at 2:00 PM Eastern the Crimson Hose take on the American League champion Rays. Three teams have a shot at the American Leauge East ---- Boston, New York and Tampa Bay. Boston has the deepest pitching staff they have a great defense. Their hitting is solid throughout their line up. They don't use steroids, they floss after eating, and they have the best looking uniforms. Thus, I predict a first place finish in the East and ultimately a trip to the World Series for The Fenways.

CELEBRITY FRIEND OF THE WEEK

JACK FOREMAN
(Pictured below with Spike)

Jack Foreman is an old friend of mine from SLC. He hales from Arizona and is an avid fan of Arizona State sports. He is a self proclaimed authority on college baseball, fine wines, western movies, history, gourmet cooking, literature, and health insurance. His wife, Dawn, is an accomplished artist.

Below is a list of Jack Foreman's 10 favorite western movies accompanied by his comments:

High Noon 1950
Gary Cooper, Grace Kelly

Broken Arrow 1950
Jimmy Stewart Jeff Chandler
Filmed in Sedona, Arizona

3:10 To Yuma 1957
Glenn Ford Van Heflin
Not to be confused with the remake that was a sad "wanta be".

Stagecoach 1939
John Wayne Claire Trevor
This started the era of John Ford westerns filming in Monument Valley.

The Outlaw 1943
Jane Russell in an unforgetable lusty role.

(Voo's editorial comment: There are only two reasons Jack would pick this movie --- and they both have to do with Jane Russell's chest.)

Duel In The Sun 1948
Gregory Peck Jennifer Jones

The Westerner 1940
Gary Cooper Walter Brennan

One Eyed Jacks 1959
Marlon Brando Karl Malden

The Fighting Westerner 1940
Randolph Scott Ann Sheridan

The Toll Gate 1920
William S. Hart

Thank you, Jack. These are very good choices.

CLASSIC MOVIE POSTER OF THE WEEK

The Wolfman 1941

The other night I was cleaning out my Rolex watch with gun cleaning oil. Spike was watching reruns of Newhart. The phone rang. It was a guy I used to know when I was a bare back rider on the Wyoming rodeo circut. He said, "Voo, why do you hate the NBA?" My answer was quick and to the point. "It's the damn uniform shorts they wear now days."

In the pictures below you will notice that the NBA players look like clowns in their big baggy pants. How did it ever evolve to this point?

These players look like they are wearing dresses.

Clown Town

Walking circus tents!

Parachutes with legs!

Even Oil Can's golf outfit looks better than this!

Pictured below are some classy players in classy uniforms from a bygone era.

Bob Cousy

Bill Sharman

Jerry West

Oscar Robertson

CELEBRITY RELATIVE OF THE WEEK
JEFF THOMAS
AKA
F-BOMB
Jeff is pictured above with his wife and precious in-laws.
Jeff is a voracious reader and one of the few intellects in the family. He and his wife, Shellie AKA The Cat Woman, live in Seattle but make frequent visits to Utah. His hobbies are photography, writing, and reading, reading, reading. He also loves to ride bikes and triathon competitions. He almost got my son-in-law killed in downtown Seattle traffic. He is a world traveler and at one time or another has been lost in every country in Europe. We look forward to seeing him on the 4th of July.

Below is featured Jeff's seven favorite war movies.

The Great Escape 1963

The Dirty Dozen 1966

Saving Private Ryan

Platoon

The Train

MASH

Bridge On The River Kwai

Thank you Jeff, for the contributions to the blog.

KNOT OF THE WEEK

Sailor's Knot
"This is often used to tie a blue rope and a white rope with red spots together."
......... Ranger Bob

NAIL HEAD ART OF THE WEEK

This is Spike's favorite nailhead picture.

UNUSUAL PHOTO OF THE WEEK

The above photo is the result of Marconi's brief employment as a valet parking attendant at Disneyland.

RANGER BOB'S OUTDOOR TIP

Pictured above are the directions on how to build a log cabin.
"The very best log cabins use logs in their construction."

MORE SISTER PHOTOS

Pictured above, far right is my sister, Joanne, when she tried out to be a square dancer on the Sanpete version of the Grand Ole Opry. She was a perfectionist on the "allemande left" but could never quite master the "DoSaDo".

Pictured above, second from right, is my sister, Joyce, at stewardess school. She had the job nailed and was ready to go to work for TWA when she tragically discovered she was allergic to packaged peanuts.

SPIKE'S POETRY CORNER

Poem #1

COSTANZA AND CATS
By Spike

Some things are creepy
Like spiders and bats,
And men over forty
Who still play with cats.

Costanza, Costanza,
One time you were cool,
Now your fetish for felines
Defines you a fool.

Costanza don't think
That I'm being bitter,
But your once brilliant brain
Is full of cat litter.

If you know what is right,
If you are red, white, and blue,
You'll feed all your cats,
To the bears in the zoo.

Poem #2

Global Warming
by Al Gore

You might think that cats
Are precious and charming,
However, cat hair
Will cause global warming.

Poem #3

Spike's Favorite Things
AKA
A Tribute to Julie Andrews
... by Spike

Frisbies and donuts and long feathered pheasants,
My head out the window on trips to Mt. Pleasant,
Mallards and pintails with one broken wing,
These are a few of my favorite things.

Digging up gardens and wading in pools,
Scaring the mailman and hiding Voo's tools,
Howling and barking when Marie Osmond sings
These are a few of my favorite things.

Napping by fires and begging for tidbits,
Scratching and yawning and giving the cat fits,
Sitting in lounge chairs and acting as King
These are a few of my favorite things.

Trips to the cabin and nights under bright stars,
Chasing the Schwan man and peeing on parked cars,
Waking up Zoobie when the phone starts to ring,
These are a few of my favorite things.

Shaking off water and chewing up rag dolls,
Ready to rumble when Oil Can's cell calls,
Eating soft ice cream 'tl my head starts to sting,
These are a few of my favorite things.

When the food's gone, when it's bath time
When I'm feeling sad,
I simply remember when Boot's lost his nuts
And then I don't feel so bad.

by Spike

Voo-
There's a reason they made basketball shorts longer and you were a big part of that!! See, a picture of you was passed around on the internet wearing shorts that were short enough to cause blindness and nightmares. That started the longer shorts in sports campaign! So thanks to you Voo, our blindness and nightmares are gone forever....well....that is until people see your hair on an "only one application of hairspray" day!!!

Oil .... Spike loves your bumper sticker. However I need to make a correction on the invitation to the plum patch. Do to new crowd control mandates by Sanpete County, there will not be room for you at the plum patch on Easter. Maybee you could go to your brother Con's house. Sorry.

Anderson Family AKA Shredder......... I will deal with you later.

j.Lo ... Thanks for submiting your favorite war movies. "Full Metal Jacket" and "From Here to Eternity" would definitely be on my, as yet unpublished, war movie list. I also liked "The Young Lions." The jury is still out on "Kelly's Heroes." Spike only has one favorite war movit.. "The Dogs Of War" (1980)

Voo,
Great blog this week. I loved Spike's favorite things. I did not love your poem about me and my cats. I will be wearing long shorts on July 4, just like Iverson, in order to torment and bother you. My favorite war movie is whatever F Bomb and Joyce said. They are the smartest people I know.
My favorite cat movie is Catwoman with Halle Berry. It's a classic!

Voo, I am honored at being featured in your blog. I have to correct a couple of misperceptions, though. 1) It wasn't my fault your son-in-law almost got killed. He was clearly not ready for the mean streets of Seattle. 2) I have not been lost in all the countries of Western Europe. Just the ones I've been in.
